Schools basketball matches go into overtime

CLOSE games saw competition at the Tuckers Ice Cream National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship yesterday exceed time limits.

The match between Latter-day Saints and Lelean Memorial School in the under-19 go into extra time three times. Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said this was a result of the stiff competition between the schools.

"That was not the only match that exceeded time limits," he said. "A couple of other games had to be played in over time to determine the winner."

LDS pulled away 35-31 to win against Lelean. Puamau said the intensity of the competition had increased since play-offs positions would be determined today.

"The level of the competition has picked up as we get closer to the knockout stages and the newcomers have shown that they have learnt a lot from the two days of competition."

The finals will be played tomorrow.
