Corporate assist for Easter basketball

Post Fiji sponsors the annual Eastern Championship at the Vodafone Arena next month hosted by the Raiwaqa Basketball Association.

RBA official Mala Ravai said they are thankful to Post Fiji for sponsoring the tournament for the second time. Post Fiji sponsored the Raiwaqa Revived tournament earlier this year with $500 but this time they had given an extra $500 to boost the Easter championship with $1,000.

“We are thankful to them for giving such large sum of money to boost the tournament. I believe this should be the largest prize-money to be offered and already teams had confirmed their participation,” Ravai said. He said they would take the first 16 teams for the men and eight teams for women.

“We're looking at 16 teams for the men and eight teams for women. We'll consider the first 16 teams for the championship.”

Ravai said with the interest shown by teams even before the championship had been advertised they hoped it would a different and more competitive one compared to that of last year.

Lautoka-based Vikings won the championship last year and would be the team to beat next month.

Veterans' teams with the likes of former national reps Peniasi Kanamoli, Peni Ratumaiyale, Joe Cash, Johnny Vakatalai and Mesu Rasova had already registered along with Warriors and Boston.

“This would a very competitive one and I believe all teams will be out firing for the cash prize,” he said. The Post Fiji Easter Championship kicks off on April 7-11.
