Teams fail to turn up

DEFAULTS marred the opening round of the Raiwaqa Basketball Players Association league at Ed's Court yesterday. All four matches in the women's grade were not played while one of the five men's grade fixtures was not played as well. The weekly men's challenge between Boston and Warriors for the Tuvili Cup was not played either. In the women's grade there were wins by default for Knights, Blue J and Golden Bati. Teams like Chosen, Wed C, Police, and Mix Kulture failed to show-up. RBPA development officer Nicholas Wong said the challenge fixuture had been deferred to Wednesday night. "There's a death in the family of a Boston player," he said. "The game will now be played on Wednesday night and Mighty Mights will challenge next on Saturday." Wong said the high number of defaults in the women's grade was due to players having national Under-20 team commitments. "Most of the players are in the U-20 squad. Today (yesterday), they had a function at the coach's place."
