Marist to take b'ball to new level

MARIST Brothers High School is favoured to win the Suva Secondary School Basketball competition, which starts in Suva today. Laced with players that have played at club level in the Raiwaqa Basketball League, the Flagstaff boys looked to be an exposed side compared to other participating schools. Isi Vuetibau, Mataika Koyamainavure, George Faga and John Kunau will spearhead MBHS to avenge their loss last year.

Tournament co-ordinator Nicholas Wong said the tournament would be different from previous years. "The team to beat in the boys is Marist. They have some good players that are playing in the league competition," Wong said. "I think it is going to be a very interesting tournament. "These Marist boys have played at different level and they will boost the level of competition at the secondary school level." Yat Sen is expected to fire up the Marist boys and defending champions Latter Day Saints not being ruled out to retain the title for another year. In the girls division, defending champs LDS remains the top seed. With a core of the team in the National U20 squad, Wong believes it will be another exciting battle this afternoon. LDS defeated Suva Grammar School to win the girl's title. The tournament kicks off at 3.30pm today.
