Good start for basketball

THE Raiwaqa Basketball Inter-lane competition started with a bang at Eds Courts in Raiwaqa yesterday. Raiwaqa Basketball official Saula Koroi said the competition which would run for three weeks got off to a good start. Koroi said the idea of organizing the tournament according to lanes was to get everyone participating. Koroi said it was encouraging to see not only players playing but also to see that players families supporting their teams. "We are used to having tournaments organized where it's only the players who participate," Koroi said. "But for this one (tournament) we have encouraged that teams play for their lanes and this ensures the participation of their families." Koroi said competition started in the morning with the Under-10 and Under-15 competitions. Koroi said this was their first tournament of the year and they wanted to continue to build-up the momentum as they went along.

Koroi said they were happy to see that the Raiwaqa Police had entered a team to play in their competition. "They started today and the Commissioner of Police was supposed to have joined them but due to work commitment he was not able to make it," Koroi said.
