Basketball meet heats up

HE Raiwaqa basketball club competition continues to intensify as participating teams' eye for a berth in the upcoming Easter Championship, to be held later this month.

With eight (men's) team set to represent Raiwaqa in the highly contested national event, the Raiwaqa Basketball Association (RBA) hopes this consistency leads to a glorious Easter Championship. RBA official Saula Koroi said they were thrilled with the urgency shown by the Raiwaqa clubs in representing the community at the championship.

"The competition level has really gone up a notch. We are impressed with the clubs' performance and their keenness in representing Raiwaqa to this championship," Koroi said. "We hope the level of competition is maintained as we come nearer to the competition (Easter Championship)."

Also the Kaji (kids) and women's competition which was launched earlier this season by the RBA, has become an integral part in the development of the sport. The development program is eyed to foster the budding talents and groom them to take over the Raiwaqa clubs in the near future. Koroi said they were overwhelmed by the support of the community in helping with their grassroots level development program.

"There have been a lot interest shown by the young basketball players and we are happy to have a good number of team in the Kaji and women's competition as well."
