Lautoka ‘add flavour’ to Easter Championship

The Lautoka Basketball Association has six teams competing in the Easter Basketball competition at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
Four men’s team and two women’s team are representing the Sugar City this year which really impressed Basketball Fiji with the progress the district has taken towards the sport.
Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau acknowledges Lautoka Basketball.
“We are very impressed with Lautoka for the initiative they have taken this year,”Puamau said. “With the new executives on board they have taken Lautoka to new heights seeing their six teams participating in the competition.
“They have all come in full force and have added flavour to the competition,” Puamau said.
Lautoka Basketball president Apakuki Tavoro said it was executives of the newly-formed association from Namoli village who revived the sport in the Western Division.
“We have weekly competitions every Saturday and we also run our local tournaments,” Tavoro said.
Tavoro said they have achieved their first target and there are many more in the pipeline.
“One of our main objectives is the Easter competition and the next one will be the secondary schools competition in the second term where we will try to make the sport interesting to students and assist them to become professional players in future.”
