Coca-Cola supports basketball event

AS the Easter Basketball Championship reaches its business end, the competition has been boosted by sponsorship.

Coca-Cola Amatil Fiji (CCAF) yesterday handed over $4000 worth of Powerade drinks and sipper bottles for teams and uniforms for officials. The competition started on Monday on a low note with games every night at the Vodafone Arena.

Basketball Fiji development office Laisiasa Puamau said competition today and tomorrow would take up the whole day.

CCAF general manager Steven Jowell said the donation was part of their company's commitment to support active healthy lifestyles.

"We are proud our established partnership with Basketball Fiji will continue and we're delighted this week's National Easter Basketball Club Championship will have more than 450 players taking part," he said.

Meanwhile, defending champions Saints and Sparks are on track to defend their titles. Saints are unbeaten in the men's competition and Sparks are also on a winning streak in the women's competition.

Sparks manager James Kamsoo said their loss in the final of the Raiwaqa Super League competition last month motivated them to be a stronger team at the national event.

"We failed to retain one title and that loss really boosted us to train harder and be a stronger team to defend this title," he said.
