U19 trials impress Basketball Fiji officials

BASKETBALL Fiji is pleased with the performance of players during the Fiji under-19 trials in Suva and Lautoka earlier this month.

Fiji will be hosting its first U19 FIBA Oceania Championship in December.

Last week, BF officials held a trial in Lautoka where interested players were invited to showcase their talent in a bid to convince the national men and women's coaches.

Apenisa Naitini who is part of the BF officials, conducting trials around the country said they hoped to select a strong team from the available players.

"We're pleased with the turnout of players in the West," he said.

"The boys in particular came out in numbers and we're impressed with their skills.

"This shows basketball is again developing in the West.

"We've selected a squad from the first trials in Suva and after the trials in Lautoka, we will have a combined trials.

"\ We hope to select a strong side to represent Fiji."

Fiji U19 men's coach Peni Ratumaiyale was present to witness the trials.

Meanwhile, tomorrow, Fiji women's U19 coach Dale Wise will conduct a trial at the FMF Gymnasium.

Wise has invited all interested players to attend the trials, bringing their birth certificates.

The trials will commence at 9am.
