Donated Goods arrive from FIBA in Oceania

750kg worth of donated goods have arrived at the Basketball Federation of Fiji’s office in preparation for the hosting of the 2014 FIBA-USP Under19 Oceania Basketball Championship.

The shipment, containing a number of promotional goods, training and match basketballs, flags and official equipment, was sent to Basketball Fiji from FIBA Oceania’s head office in Canberra Australia.

“We are grateful for the constant support that FIBA in Oceania has been providing us in the lead up to this international event,” Basketball Fiji’s Chief Operating Officer Laisiasa Puamau [pictured] said. “These much needed donated goods will go a long way to ensuring the championship’s success.”

The first teams start arriving from Friday next week with Australia taking the lead. The international guests will be staying in a games village situated at the residential halls at USP and will start using the USP gym for training from Saturday.

FIBA in Oceania will be running a number of refereeing and coaching courses throughout the tournament being hosted in Suva next month. It will be a great opportunity for many of the basketball communities from the Pacific to upskill their coaches and officials, particularly in preparation for the South Pacific Games being held in Papua New Guinea next year.

The 2014 FIBA-USP Under 19 Oceania Basketball Championship is being held at the Vodafone Arena from December 1-6. Tickets are just $3 for adults and can be purchased at the gate and children enter for free.
