Primary School Competition Ready to Launch

On Wednesday the 4th February representatives from numerous Suva based primary schools attended the first ever meeting to start a Primary School Basketball Competition in Fiji. This program is an initiative of the new Basketball Fiji Committee who has targeted youth development as a necessary means to grow the sport.

All schools were very excited about the prospect of being involved in the program and keen to help further promote the sport in their schools. The competition will involve three mixed age groups U10, U12, U14 where boys and girls will play together on the same team.

The Official Launch of the Kaji Basketball Program is set to commence at Vodaphone Arena on the Friday the 20th of February at 1pm. Included in this program are school visits by Basketball Fiji’s youth development coaches to help develop the skills and game knowledge of Fiji’s future basketball stars.

The round robin competition will be played throughout the first term of the school year. With the generous support of International Primary School the competition will be held at their indoor and outdoor basketball facilities on Friday afternoons as well as another venue yet to be confirmed.

The schools involved in the Kaji Basketball Program include: International Primary, Gospel Primary, Yet Sen Primary, Vieuto Primary, Stella Maris Primary, Holy Trinity, LDS Primary School and John Wesley.

Many thanks to all schools supporting the program and we look forward to our inaugural Primary School Basketball Competition.
