Raiwaqa starts basketball season

Raiwaqa Basketball Association had set a platform to be the first association to promote and help Basketball Fiji gear up to another level with its development programmes.

RBA was the first association to host the previous Post Fiji Easter Basketball Championships at the Vodafone Arena on Easter weekends and now they further plan to help maintain the standard.

RBA official Mala Ravai said their main vision was to help Basketball Fiji maintain and improve their standard to another level. He said they appreciated the hard work by the development officers in developing young players.

Our vision is to maintain the reputation of Basketball Fiji's success and become a model for associations of similar size throughout Fiji and our mission is to promote Basketball by providing an excellent level of development & competition for all players in Raiwaqa and beyond Ravai said. RBA had also allowed the kaji development programmes to be held at their very own Eds court in Raiwaqa.

Most importantly our focus will be on our kids through development programmes. On that note, we are thankful to Basketball Fiji's officers, Lai Puamau and Mark Seccombe for their great assistance in running programmes at Eds Court during the first week of the school holidays,he said.

It's a big boost. It's critical that we do this and who knows one day these kids could be running the association and development programmes within the next few years. Meanwhile Raiwaqa begins their new season next week with few tournaments organized to blend in with the league competition every week.

Our new season starts next week and we have 16 men's teams have confirmed their participation. We will have seven weeks of round robin competition but in between these competitions we will have various different tournaments,Ravai said.

Different in a sense that instead of having players play for their own club we'll get them to mingle with players from other clubs through the inter-confederacy (Kubuna, Burebasaga & Tovata) championship.

He said they had this tournament once during the inter-lane days so now would be making it an annual event We're also looking at hosting an open fitness five tournament and the normal club knock-outs.

Bulldogs, Bryceland, Warriors, Mighty Mights, Noobies, Boston, G Unit, Veterans, Nukuwatu, Hands, Idaman, Babarians, Macpacers, Knights, Knicks and Freshmen have confirmed their registration this season.
