Basketball Works On

FIJI Basketball development officer Laisiasa Puamau is optimistic they will be able to put together a strong squad to play in the FIBA Oceania Under-20 Youth Championships. A 70-member training squad begins training in Suva and the west next Wednesday. Puamau said this would continue until the squad was trimmed to 20 on August 23. "This will be for both the men's and women's squad," Puamau said. "We will continue to hold our weekly training sessions before the final 10-member team is selected on September 5." Puamau said apart from the weekly training sessions, the squad would be called to camps. "We have some players from the west in the training squads and they will be looked after by our development officers from Nadi and Lautoka," Puamau said. "We will call them to camps with the other members so we can assess them together." The Oceania Champion-ships will be held in New Caledonia from October 30 to November 7.
