Whippy Named Player of the Week

Laie, HI—Brigham Young University Hawaii junior Marques Whippy has been named the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the past week.  Whippy led the Seasiders to two wins in as many games this past week by averaging 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.  He is the third Seasider honored by the conference this season as Player of the Week.


Whippy, from Bua, Fiji, 63.2 percent (12-19) from the field for the week to help the Seasiders improve to 15-5 overall and 9-2 in the PacWest.  He also averaged five steals and three assists per game and blocked three shots in the two games.  Over the last ten games for BYU–Hawaii, Whippy has averaged a double-double with 13.1 points and 10.6 rebounds per game.  He has also shot 62.8 percent (54-86) from the field during that stretch and has averaged 3.1 assists and 2.7 steals per game.
