THE much anticipated Raiwaqa Basketball Provincial championship ends today at the Eds court in Raiwaqa.

The championship has been dubbed as the best ever competition in Raiwaqa after the inception of the Raiwaqa inter-lane earlier this year.

Ten provincial teams battled each other for the past two nights.

Defending champion Lomaiviti won the last provincial title in 2000.

Teams like Tailevu, Kadavu, Cakaudrove/Bua/Macuata (CBM), Lau and Western have provided stiff competition.

Tournament official Saula Koroi says the tournament is heating up as the best ever in Raiwaqa.

"We had the inter-lane competition but this one is a notch up," he said.

"All the best players were equally distributed into their province and they gave everything in the tank for the pride of their vanua."

"It is a joy to watch the tournament and I believe it will be very competitive in future," Koroi said.

"This is the first time we are organising this tournament since 2000."

He said the main objective of the tournament was to help the Raiwaqa players know their traditional heritaged and where they originate from.

Tailevu caused the upset of Day One when they edged Lau 21-20 on Thursday night.

Koroi said teams showed they had the potential to beat any team.

He said the final day would be tough as teams chased top honours of being crowned champion.

"All teams are unpredictable."

"We have witnessed some of the best ever matches to be played here but I believe the final day will go down to the wire."

The official march-past from the Raiwaqa market to Eds Court starts from 8am today.
