Devotion Service Opens National Championships

The Lautoka organising committee for the National Basketball Championships conducted a devotion as part of the opening ceremony. The Assembly of God choir, led the ceremony, before changing into their basketball gear to take to the courts. The first 8 games this morning were tightly contested men's games, with some surprise results. Previous national team players Adrian Bossley, Earl Hughes and Batiri Thaman were amongst the losing teams, showing just how close the competition will be. The girls took to the courts mid afternoon for their first round, with a 2 point win to Saints over Suva Warriors. This game featured a number of national junior and senior representatives, and showed the level of talent in women's basketball in Fiji.
