Laucala upsets U17 champ

A new Under-17 champion will be crowned in the Tuckers Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.
This was after Laucala Bay Secondary defeated defending champions Marist Brothers High in the quarterfinal at Ed’s Court yesterday.
Basketball Fiji’s development officer Laisiasa Puamau said the defeat was a major upset.
“It shows how much the Laucala players have improved,” Puamau said.
“Apart from that, it was good to see QVS in the quarterfinals. They really exceeded expectations and should be happy with their results.”
He added the boys from Vulinitu did well especially being a first timer in the competition.
Meanwhile, in today’s semifinals, defending U15 girls champs St Joseph Secondary will face Yat Sen while International plays Latter Day Saints.
In the boy’s division, MBHS Two will defend the title against Natabua High and LDS plays Yat Sen.
In the U17 grade, YSS will try to book a berth in the final against Gospel whilst SJSS will try to escape from the Lions claws.
The boys will see LBSS playing Eudopia.
In the U19 grade, LDS plays SJSS and ACS faces YSS while for boys, MBHS plays St Thomas and LDS plays Natabua.
The semifinals will be played at the Vodafone Arena at 8.30am today.
