Curtain Raiser a Success

On Saturday the 11th of April a curtain raiser match was organised by Basketball Fiji with the blessing and support of the tournment organises. The exihibition match was between the Veiuto Primary Schools under 14 mixed team and the Under 14 Raiwaqa All-Star mixed team. The game lived up to its expectation as both teams fought head to head until the final buzzer. The Veiuto team came up victourous by a marginal score of 16- 14. The game was very entertaining and gives organisers a great feeling of joy to witness young kids having fun. With every basket a fist would be thrown in the air in celebration with a loud eruption of voices would fill the Vodafone arena from the team that scored and from their bench.

The Veiuto team were selected from the Post Fiji Kaji Basketball Primary Schools competition as they proved to be the best prepared team in the competition. The Raiwaqa All Star under 14 mixed teams consist of boys and girls living right next to the Raiwaqa Basketball courts. They are said to eat and sleep basketball as they are always on the courts.

Basketball Fiji would like to congratulate the host of the tournament for not just hosting a successful tournament but for regonising the importance and supporting the development program. This is a historical event to have two under 14 mixed teams play in a curtain raiser match prior to the final.
