Sports Academy students of Marist Brothers’ High School take up basketball

On the 9th June a FIBA Level 0 coaching clinic has been organized by Basketball Fiji’s (BF) with the sports science academy students of Marist Brothers’ High School. The program reaches up to 25 students that are conducted on Tuesdays from 1.30pm to 3pm at the schools basketball gym every week. The program will run until the end of the school term that witnesses new comers to the game learning and playing basketball for the very first time. A majority of the students with the exception of one are in the under 19 rugby team and are keenly interested in joining the schools basketball team.

The students are developing at an unbelievable rate and are defiantly living up to their sports academy statues. Last week the sports academy student challenged the under 19 school team and won by more than 12 points. Ironically Marist is the defending champions of the National Secondary Schools Championships in the under 17 and 19 boys grade. One could imagine if the sports academy students enter a team in the Secondary Schools Tournament.

The participates at the clinic are required to do 4 hours of practical per week with the schools basketball team and junior P.E classes.

On the 14th July Basketball Fiji (BF) plans to conduct a FIBA level 0 Referee’s course with the enthusiastic and well atheletical students of Marist Brothers’ High School.
