Young Uluiasi, Marist show intentions with big win

TALL timber Uluiasi Koroi scored 26 points as the Marist Brothers' High School under-19 basketball team demolished Suva Grammar School yesterday.

The final score of 59-7 at Ed's Court in Raiwaqa reflects the form in which MBHS is in during the Tuckers Ice Cream Secondary Schools Basketball League after round four yesterday.

MBHS are not only the defending champions of but are also the reigning champions of the national secondary schools competition in the under-19 grade.

Using his height and reach as an advantage, Koroi towered over his opponents and plucked high balls and collected numerous rebounds when on the court.

The 17-year-old is part of the national under-19 team training squad preparing for the 9th Pacific Youth Basketball Championship (FIBA Oceania Youth Tournament) in Australia at the end of year.

He said he was aiming to become the first sportsperson in his family to don national colours.

"I took up the sport three years ago when I was in Form Four and last year I helped the schools under-17 team win the Suva league and the national secondary school's competition," said the Wailevu lad from Kadavu.

"This year, I aim to help the school's under-19 retain their titles and I am hoping to get selected in the national under-19 team so I can become the first national rep in my family," said the seventh former of the Flagstaff based school.

Girls at LDS Courts: ACS 28 LDS 23 (U19), ACS 0 LDS 28 (U15), ISS 3 LDS 15 (U17)

Boys at Ed's Courts: MBHS 59 SGS 7 (U19), MBHS 12 SGS 7 (U17), MBHS I 16 MBHS II 17 (U15).

Games at Yat Sen School courts were postponed because of wet weather.
