Korovou wins Fiji Games Final

USA bound Mataika Komainavure helped his Navua team beat Korovou 51-41 in the final of the Fiji Games basketball competition. The former under-19 national rep has won himself a basketball scholarship to study at the Southwestern Community College through his efforts in the sport.

Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said Komainavure would be leaving the country in a few months time. "This means he will not be part of the national team for the Oceania Championships that will be held later this year," he said.

"We were using the Fiji Games to identity talent to be part of the national training squad for the Oceania Championship." Navua was coached by Leonard Whippy and also had the services of Jesse Sikivou.

Meanwhile, the Grace Taito lead Nausori beat Suva 41-31 to take out the women's title at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.

"The competition between the teams was very good even though this was our first major competition after the Easter Games which was held earlier this year," Puamau said.
