Natabua to defend basketball title

Natabua High School is out to defend their Lautoka Secondary School Basketball League which starts next week.

With both U19 title in both grades in the bag from last year, former national U20 rep Peter Chambers believes Natabua would face stiff competitions from other schools.

Schools like St Thomas, Tilak High, Lautoka Central College and Natabua have been the common rivals in their local league.

Chambers believes Central would be the team to beat and definitely would be a thorn to the Natabua Blues when the league starts.

He said other two schools Tilak and St Thomas had been competitive in the U15 and U17 grades and certainly a tough team to beat at the lower ranks.

"I'm betting on LCC to be the team to watch this season. They definitely had proven themselves to be one of the best teams in the competition in past years and I believe they would in full fire when the league starts," Chambers said. "Natabua was the defending champ in both grades last year. They would be out to retain their titles but I believe they have to walk the extra mile to accomplish their mission," the former national U20 rep said.

Lautoka Basketball had organized a friendly competition for the secondary schools today before the first round of competition begins next Saturday at the Lautoka multipurpose courts. Meanwhile, Chambers believes Lautoka Basketball is heading the right direction with its development. "Everything is working out well with our development and basketball is now one of the growing sports in Lautoka. It has attracted the interest of young players and should be on top within few years time."

The secondary school competition starts next week at the Lautoka multipurpose court.
