GUAMWINS 2 STRAIGHT IN YOUTH OLYMPICS

The foursome of Destiny Castro, Kali Benavente, Felicia Borja and Dyonii Quitugua made Guam history Tuesday and Wednesday nights, leading Guam to its first ever women’s team victory in the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.

The 3×3 women’s basketball team beat Andorra 18-8 led by Castro’s 12 points and Borja’s five points on Tuesday. Andorra is the sixth smallest nation in Europe with a population of about 85,000.

Guam followed that up with a win over Indonesia 14-11 as Castro had six points and Borja had five.

“The girls played awesome (defense) and we knocked down shots,” coach Jin Han posted on his Facebook page. “Very happy for these girls.”

Earlier in the Tuesday evening, Guam lost to Romania 18-8 after dropping to Belgium 22-7 on Monday night.

They still have the following games left this week in pool play: Chinese-Taipei, Egypt, Czech Republic, Thailand and United States.
