GYBA 2015 Summer League

GYBA Season to Bounce on Saturday

The 11th Annual Guam Youth Basketball Association (GYBA) Drug Free Basketball league is set to dribble on June 13th Saturday with games at the Astumbo, Yigo and Sports Complex gyms. Opening games will tip off at 9am.

This year's league consists of 100 teams competing in seven divisions. Games will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Sports Complex, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at Astumbo and Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Yigo gym.

GYBA goal is to focus on developing Youth Basketball on Guam

GYBA's initial start to the games is a drug free pledge away from drugs or alcohol, which will be recited by all players.

This year's teams include the defending champions Barrigada Crusaders, Sharks, Warriors, Mavericks, Islanders, Yellow Jackets, Yigo, Asan Rai, Yona and Malesso. Joining this year's league is the teams from Umatac and Mangilao.

This year's league will give the new and returning players a chance to show off some of their skills they have been improving on and will get a chance to acquire some as the league progresses through the summer. It will also, give others a chance to meet friends or make new ones.

GYBA will be using modified FIBA Rules along different size balls for each age group. It will also, stress the practice of good sportsmanship, respect for others and fair play.

Added to this year's league will be a Triple J Customer Driven All-Star Game midway through the season according to Triple J marketing coordinator Tina Esteves. Esteves wants the kids to play and enjoy the games with some type of positive energy during the summer. In line with the customer driven philosophy trophies will be awarded to the top two teams during the championship games culminating the season.

Entry to all the games is free of charge.
