ICECP Scholarship Awarded to Sid Guzman Guam Men's Coach

1.      With your vast experience as a coach at all levels, what do you hope to achieve from the ICECP that will contribute to your role as national coach?

2.      What is your project title and please briefly explain the reasons for choosing this?

3.      Are the coach training in Guam limited to what FIBA offers? Did you know that ONOC offers the Oceania Sport Education Program (OSEP) that offers generic coaching principles and sport administration for all ONOC members?

4.      What are some of your immediate plans when you complete this program next year?

5.      What is your goal for Team Guam basketball for the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia?

1.  I hope to gain a better understanding of the newest training and coaching methodologies.  The game of basketball, in and of itself has not changed that much over the years, but the manner in which we prepare and new perspectives in teaching and coaching the fundamentals are what I would like to learn and apply to my coaching and teaching philosophies.

2.  "Development of a 4 Month Comprehensive Training Program for Guam National Basketball Team Athletes in Preparation for International Competition"  Some of the reasons I chose this project are due to the limitations of time and resources in preparing teams for competition based on our geographical and financial limitations.  I would like to see if the sport experts can assist me in determining if this plan is realistic and achievable, based on current research and performance trends.

3.  Yes, and based primarily on when and where they can offer it.  The training's are few and far between.  I was not aware that ONOC offers OSEP, I would be willing to attend any program available to enhance my knowledge and help my Athletes become better prepared for competition.  Please send me the details or applications for all future programs or events that I may be eligible to qualify for that may be upcoming. I will disseminate to other coaches as well.

4.  The most immediate plan upon my completion of the course presentation in 2010 will be to apply the Project principles to actual preparation of the Guam Men's Sr. and U19 National Men's teams in preparation for the Micronesian Games in the summer of 2010 and the U19 Oceania Youth tournament in New Caledonia in November 2010.

5.  Ideally, after finishing 2nd the last 3 pacific games in the Men's Basketball competition.  We would like to aspire to compete and earn the right to play for the Gold Medal again, hopefully with the new philosophies, updated training and learning experience the team has endured, we finally will be able to walk off the court as Gold Medalist in the Pacific Games. But, realistically we would just like to have our Players compete at the highest possible levels they can, if we do the preparatory work and put in the time and effort on and off the court, there is no reason that we cannot achieve our ultimate goal.
