MICRO GAMES FINAL DAY 9

In the first game of the day Pohnpei and Chuuk men had quite a battle for 5th place in

the first 3 quarters before Pohnpei established their superiority in the final quarter due to the dominance on the boards of their big men in Tomasi Mawi,  Kelly Tobin and Troy Yaingelvo.  For Chuuk their main point scorer, Eddy Nifon completed a magnificent tournament with 17 points and John Alfios and Dominic Dereas had 14.  For Pohnpei ,guard William Hawley had a game high of 24 points.

Guam continued their dominance of Micronesian women’s basketball by winning the gold medal.  The Guam women accounted for CNMI in a game where Guam was always in control. Guam’s big players in Brianna Benito and Kathryn Castro dominated inside and their guards in Jocelyn Pardilla, Maree Pelkey and Jonimonay Tedpahago dominated around the court and on the fast break.

Team Palau was never really in the game against Kosrae men for the bronze medal and while being close on the score board at times, were always trying to catch up.  The basic team skills of the Kosraeans were superior and Palau scorers struggled to make outside shots during the game.

The men’s gold medal game did not live up to its expectations as Guam dominated from the opening quarter and never allowed Kosrae to get a look at a lead.  Guam’s aggressive defence and well organized offence always had them in command.  It was a fitting end for an excellent Guam team to take out the gold medal.
