SMUUCH AND KINGS GO TO ESC CHAMPIONSHIP

In the first semi final on Monday the undefeated GBH Smuuch faced off against the KES A team. It was a fast and furious game throughout with turnovers being the biggest statistic as both teams seemed to try to “outgun” each other. The Smuuch held sway in the first two quarters to be just ahead by 4 points at the main break (24-20). In the third quarter both teams tried to play even faster and were out of control for long periods but the Dolphins failed to make this work as they still trailed by 5 points going into the last quarter. The Smuuch decided that smarter heads might prevail and with better control in the final quarter eventually ran out winners by 52-40. Isechal top scored for GBH with 10 points while for KES A Tanaka had 15.

The second semi final was poised to be a tight game with both the SDA Kings and MES Dolphins evenly matched. The Dolphins won the first quarter but the Kings rallied in the second to have a 25-23 lead at the half time break. With both coaches urging their players to greater effort, it was the Kings who managed to have a big third quarter to outscore the Dolphins by 15 to 5 for the quarter and that enabled them to run away with a 51-37 win. For the SDA Kings it was point guard Oscar Page who ran the show and gave his team much more control and poise. The Dolphins lost two key players with 5 fouls in the final quarter in Kerai and Omsuul that did not help their cause to play catch-up basketball.

The Championship game and the Consolation Final should both be great spectacles. The GBH Smuuch team has been the big improver this season but the reigning champions in SDA Kings will not stop until the final whistle. The KES A and MES Dolphins are also evenly matched and their game on Thursday should be a beauty.
