M15BT OPENING CEREMONY
In his opening remarks Mr Kyota welcomed the visiting teams and made special mention of this first ever 15 Years and Under Micronesian Basketball Tournament. He stressed to the young players that this was the first step in their pathway to representing their country at the senior national levls such as the Micronesian Games and Micronesian Basketball Tournament.
Senator Akitaya also welcomed the teams and the Head of Delegations for CNMI and Guam, Mr Ed Manalili and Mr Darrel Dela Paz, respectively. He spoke about the opportunity to represent their country as something to be proud of. He also welcomed the various dignatories in attendance, who were representing their country at the APIL this week.
In opening the tournament, the Secretary-General of the Micronesian Basketball Confederation (MBC) and Tournament Director, Mr Kazuki “Topps” Sungino pointed out how this move by the MBC to introduce Micronesian tournaments for such a young age was both exciting and important for the future growth of basketball in the Micronesian Region.
Following the opening cermony the teams and dignatories were served dinner and then they and the many speactators enjoyed the entertainment presented by a number of young male and female traditional dancers.
