BHS Stellars scores double whammy in ISL Girl’s varsity hoopfest

After failing in three successive tries, Bethania High School (BHS) Stellars managed barged their way into the winning column with a back-to-back victory in the ongoing 2011 Inter-School League girl’s basketball league.

BHS Stellars first defeated PHS Lady Spiders, 65-38 and then pounded PMA A Warriors, 80-52. In their meeting with the PMA A Warriors, the Stellars started on a high note as they opened the game with a 21-1 lead at the first quarter.

As if that was not enough, the Stellars continued to outscore the Warriors in the second canto with a 24-11 output to close the first half with a 45-12 lead. From there, the Stellars never looked back as they went on to win the game and sport a 2-3 count in the team standings.

Lucy Aguon led the scoring fray for the Stellars with 29 points while teammate Rhea Ngirmang added 19 while Esichang topscored for the Warriors with 32 on the losing side.

In other games, PHS Black Widow defeated PHS Lady Spiders, 71-42 and PHS Black Widow routed PMA A Warriors, 62-30.

Games resume today with the playoff for the no. 2 squad against the no. 3 team at 4 p.m. at the SDA gym while tomorrow’s match will have the no.1 team against the no. 4 team at the PHS Gym.

Consolation game will be played on November 3 while the championship will be on November 4 all at the Palau National gym. The tournament is supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF).  By Peter Erick L. Magbanua (Island Times News)
