IP&E ABL: Stingers, Airwaves beat opponents

Team Stingers and Airwaves showed composure as they went all the way to beat respective opponents in the ongoing 2012 season of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League (ABL) at the Palau National gym.

Team Stingers are in a good start in their campaign as they nailed their second win at the expense of On Fire, 79-69 Wednesday night. The Stingers dominated the game after posting a 23-10 lead at the opening tip off, they managed to keep On Fire at bay.

Douglas Schmidt Jr. paced the Stingers with 29 points as teammate Ziske Asanuma added 19 as they now take a 2-0 win-loss card in the team standings while Jaxon Chang topscored for On Fire with 15 as they are 0-2.

On the other hand, after losing their opening game, the Airwaves bounced back to beat the Rivals, 77-73. Pesky point guard Dembei Watanabe led the scoring clutches for the Airwaves with 32 markers as King Ngiraboi led the Rivals with 18 on the losing end.

In other games, FR Spoilers beat the Nationals, 104-93; Surangel Kings defeated B.O.G., 79-67; PCC Mesekiu outscored Ngerkesoaol, 80-68; Mesang Red Storm won over Dngeronger, 20-0; and Ngerkesoaol outclassed the Nationals, 84-72.

Games resume tonight with the Nationals taking on PPR Shark Attack at 6 p.m. followed by the Ngerkesoaol-Ikelauans tussle at 9 p.m. then the tournament will take a break and will resume on January 3 with the Ranchers versus the Airwaves at 6 p.m. followed by the B.O.G.-4x4 Wheelers match at 7:30 p.m. while Breakers will meet the Cardinals at 9 p.m.

Three games will be played every night from Mondays to Fridays and the tournament is a tobacco, alcohol and drug free program. All violators will be banned from participating.
