IP&E ABL: Rivals, Red Storm beat opponents

Team Ngermid Rivals and Mesang Red Storm maintained their pace as they outrun their respective opponents in the ongoing 2012 season of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League (ABL) at the Palau National gym.

Ngermid Rivals started the New Year right as they scored their first win after beating Kabong, 70-64. The Rivals kept their pace of the game keeping Kabong at bay in the first half with a 36-29 lead.

From there, the Rivals slowed down any attempt by Kabong to comeback as they secured the win. Ody Yalap topscored for the Rivals with 23 points as teammate Michael Spis Gordon added 15 while Wiseman Olkeriil and Jason Sied led Kabong in the scoring department with identical 14 markers.

On the other hand, Mesang Red Storm showed their defensive prowess as they held down the Ididers, 64-34. The Red Storm meant business from the opening tip off as they took on a 13-5 lead in the first quarter and then secured a 34-15 lead at the half.

With that the Red Storm went all the way to score the win with Tats Sadang leading the way with 21 as Franky Kuchad added 13. The Red Storm defense held their ground as they managed to limit the Ididers point production as Madaob topscored for Ididers with 9 while teammate Dez chipped in 6.

In other games, PCC Mesekiu won over PPR Shark Attack, 87-67; Breakers defeated the Cardinals, 73-57; 4x4 Wheelers down B.O.G., 64-55; the Airwaves outscored the Ranchers, 90-68; Ngerkesoaol whipped Ikelauans, 76-59; the Nationals outrun PPR Shark Attack, 105-59; Dngeronger beat the Cardinals, 68-62; Spoilers blast PCC Mesekiu, 90-79; and Aqua Smooth downs On Fire, 81-53.

Games resume tonight with Spoilers versus Ikelauans at 6 p.m. followed by the Dngeronger-Ngerkesoaol tussle at 7:30 p.m. while the Nationals meet the Cardinals at 9 p.m. January 9 games will have Breakers against Mesang Red Storm at 6 p.m. as Ididers will face Ngerkesoaol at 7:30 p.m. while Ranchers will face the Rivals in the night cap at 9 p.m.

Three games will be played every night from Mondays to Fridays and the tournament is a tobacco, alcohol and drug free program. All violators will be banned from participating.
