D’Originals, Surangel and Sons score win

Team D’Originals and Surangel and Sons showed poise as they scored separate victories over their rivals in the ongoing 2012 season of the Filipino Basketball League and Master’s League at the Palau National gym.

Last year’s runner up in the Master’s division D’Originals showed that they are determined to go for the title this year after blasting defending champion Ocean View/PCGM, 77-60.

D’Originals took the early lead at 23-11 and then closed the first half with a 43-32 advantage. From there they never gave room for the defending champs to make a comeback to score the win.

Cib Aquino led the scoring chores for team D’Originals with 25 as veteran skipper Jimmy Domingo added 15. Team Ocean View/PCGM was led by Jojo Arevalo and Cris Fernando in the scoring department as they finished with 18 and 17markers, respectively on a losing cause.

Games for the Master’s league will resume on March 18 with team 9-Ball against FR Spoilers at 12:30 p.m.

On the other hand, Surangel and Sons survived a tough assignment as they bested the Choppers, 85-82.

Leading 81-75, Choppers’ ace gunner Bon-Bon Pramo scored on a three point shot to cut the lead at 81-78 with less than 1:45 left in the fourth quarter. But Surangel and Sons’ Arnold Undencimo came to the rescue as he scored on separate baskets as he stretched their lead to 85-79 with 45 seconds left in the game clock.

Choppers managed to get within striking distance as Pramo again hit a three pointer to narrow the gap at 85-82. PJ Esguerra could have sent the game into overtime but missed on his three point try. Undencimo paced Surangel and Sons with 25 while Pramo tallied 33 for the Choppers with Ronald Reyes backing him with 20.

In other games, Hanpa Cardinals drubbed Rams Guardians, 73-43 while the Ilocandia Bulls bested the Jaguars, 83-60.

Games will resume on March 18 with Hanpa Cardinals versus RP Rangers at 11 a.m. as Rams Guardians will meet the Choppers at 2 p.m. while Surangel and Sons will test the FR Spoilers in the main game at 3:30 p.m.
