Peched Raw, Spoilers score win in IP&E NBL

Defending champion Peched Raw and FR Spoilers improved their respective standings after beating respective rivals, Wednesday night in the ongoing 2012 season of the IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) at the Palau National gym.

Peched Raw dominated the second half as they went on to beat Surangel Kings, 90-65. After taking a 38-34 lead at the end of the second quarter, Peched Raw spurted a 23-11 run in the third canto to establish a 61-45 advantage.

From there, Peched Raw maintained its lead to sail away with their sixth straight victory as Kalson Dulei finished the game with 17 points with teammate Dennis Castro chipping in 12 as they main their lead with a 6-0 win-loss record in the team standings.

Flashy playmaker Nico Hinoza paced Surangel Kings with 22 as they suffered their seventh setback to remain in the cellar with a 0-7 tally.

On the other hand, FR Spoilers came out gunning in the third quarter as they managed to contain team Kabong, 75-72. Down 41-35 in the second quarter, the Spoilers made up for their lapses in the second half as they outrun team Kabong with a 29-19 output to gain the upper hand at 64-60 going into the final quarter.

From there, the Spoilers maintained their composure as they went all the way to score a come from behind victory. Michael Bombita topscored for the Spoilers with 23 markers to sport a 4-2 tally while Armando Canseco finished with 19 for team Kabong as they slipped to 2-4.

In other games, Nationals 17 Under won over Melengoes, 85-79; Islanders bested Meda, 87-81; Aqua Smooth defeated Kabong, 77-52; and Spoilers drubbed Mercury Optimax, 102-88.

Games resume tonight with Meda versus Spoilers at 6 p.m. followed by the Islanders-4x4 Wheelers tussle at 7:30 p.m. Monday night games will have Islanders against Surangel Kings at 7:30 p.m. while Mercury Optimax will face Kabong in the main game at 9 p.m.
