Surangel and Sons survive Bulls rampage

Team Surangel and Sons showed that they can make huge comeback as they subdued a tough Ilocandia Bulls, 101-98 Sunday in the ongoing 2012 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.

Down 50-38 after the first half, Surangel and Sons team of Arnold Undecimo, Gener Aguinaldo, Dennis Demate, Edzel Torres and playing coach Eric Manio spurted a 28-22 outbreak in the third canto to trim the lead at 72-66.

Surangel and Sons then wasted no time as they again outran the Bulls in the final quarter with a 35-24 output to take the win and remain in solid third spot in the team standings with a 9-5 win-loss record.

Manio led the scoring chores for Surangel and Sons with 20 as Bong Gayongorza and Undecimo added 17 and 16 baskets, respectively while Joeger Supnet and Ryan Cacho topscored for the Bulls with identical 25 points as they suffered their sixth loss for an 8-6 tally.

In other games, MJ Rangers bested the Jaguars, 58-48; and the FR Spoilers pounded the Choppers, 150-52.

Games will resume on August 19 with the Ilocandia Bulls versus Rams/Guardians at 12:30 p.m. followed by the Western Union-Choppers match at 2 p.m. while FR Spoilers will meet the MJ Rangers in the main game at 3:30 p.m.  By Peter Erick L. Magbanua (Island Times)
