FR Spoilers, WU down foes

Defending champion and highly financed FR Spoilers and Western Union solidified their standings as they bested separate foes, Sunday in the 2012 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.

FR Spoilers again showed their dominance in both ends of the court as they blasted MJ Rangers, 123-93. It was all Spoilers from the opening tip off till the sound of the final buzzer.

Leading 35-20, the Spoilers went to outscore the Rangers with a 31-24 output to close the first half with a 66-44 lead. From there, the Spoilers went all the way to win the game and take the top spot of the team standings with a 13-1 win-loss record. Coco Gonzales led the scoring chores for the Spoilers with 32 as teammate Michael Bombita added 30.

The Rangers tried to bounce back but did not have enough fuel to gat back in the game as they suffered their 6th setback for a 9-6 tally despite the 22 point performance of Mac Fernandez.

In other games, Western Union took solid grasp of the second spot in the team standing with their 69-58 win over the Choppers while the Ilocandia Bulls defeated the Rams/Guardians, 84-63.

Games will resume on August 26 with Surangel and Sons versus Hanpa Cardinals at 12:30 p.m. followed by the MJ Rangers-Ilocandia Bulls tussle at 2 p.m. while FR Spoilers will test anew Western Union in the main game at 3:30 p.m.  By Peter Erick L. Magbanua (Island Times News)
