PHS Tarantula wins ISL Boys Jr. varsity hoopfest

After starting strong in the first quarter of play, Palau High School Tarantula held on to beat Emmaus High School team B, 83-56 to claim the championship crown of the 2012 Inter-School League (ISL) Junior boys’ basketball league played at the Palau National gym.

PHS Tarantula barged in to the championship after beating Palau Mission Academy Team A, 52-47 in the semifinals while EHS B made it to the championship with their 64-29 win over PHS Spiders.

Taking a 25-15 lead at the opening tip off, PHS Tarantula rallied their way and prevented EHS B to comeback in the game. PHS Tarantula’s trio of Abraham Taisacan, Jorvan Takawo and Edwin Yaoch ripped through the EHS B defense and led their team in the scoring department. Taisacan finished with 22 points as teammates Takawo and Yaoch chipped in identical 10 markers, repectively.

On the other hand, Sambal Rekemel paced EHS B with 13 points as teammates Eluich Soad and Nathan Chuntei added identical 12 baskets, in that order.

In the consolation game, Palau Mission Academy team A drubbed PHS Spiders, 72-38.

Awarding followed right after the championship game, which was supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF).  By Peter Erick L. Magbanua (Island Times News)
