FR Spoilers beat Rangers to retain FBL crown

Defending champion FR Spoiers pushed themselves to the limit to beat a tough MJ Rangers, 91-80 and take the crown in Game Two of their best of three championship series of the 2012 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) played at the Palau National gym.

The Spoilers banked on their formidable line up as they out ran the Rangers. They took an early 29-25 lead and then closed the first half with a 48-43lead. The Rangers rallied in the third to grab the lead for a moment at 66-61 but the Spoilers came back to claim back the lead top hold to a 68-67 advantage.

From there, the Spoilers held on as the Rangers could not seem to find the hole in the basket as the missed out on the possession. The game came into a halt in the 8:48 mark of the final canto as fans from the bleachers threw some candies at the referees. In the assessment, the candies came from the Spoilers’ fans who were complaining about unjust calls from the referees. FBL chairperson Grace Banconga and FBL committee members intervene and told the fans not to throw at the referees, who are just doing their job.

The game resume play with the Spoilers orchestrating a 23-13 run to finally score the win and retained their title after closing the series with a 2-0 count.

Six players from the Spoilers finished in double digits led by Marvic Ngchar with 21, Coco Gonzales with 18, Aries Echanova and Mark Pagayanan with identical 13 markers and Michael Bombita and Lester Mendoza with identical 11 points, respectively.

On the other hand, Nico Hinoza finished the game with 26 baskets for the Rangers, which settled for second runner up.
