Oiterong bails Melngoes past Airwaves in IP&E ABL

Clutch shooter Perry Oiterong came to aide his team when needed most as he led Melngoes past a tough team Airwaves, 80-78 Wednesday night in the ongoing elimination round of the IP&E Amateur Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

Down 77-78 in the dying minutes of the game, Oiterong evened the count as he sank one of his free throws to make it 78-all. Both teams braced themselves in the next possession but the Airwaves failed to capitalize on it that gave Melngoes the opportunity in the ball possession.

Melting the game clock, Melngoes went to Oiterong who responded by scoring the winning shot. With his performance Oiterong finished the game with a career high 41 while Raul Osias backed him up with 22.

Airwaves playmaker Jose Meltel and Gino Smau topscored for their squad with 24 and 22 markers, respectively but was not enough to push them through as they suffered another setback in the tournament.

On the other hand, Douglas Schmidt tallied 35 points to fuel his team Stingers against Mesang Red Storm, 82-73. Schmidt used his speed and shooting prowess as he led his squad to a 17-10 advantage in the first quarter.

From there, the Stingers never looked back as they went on to score the win. Tats and Frank Kuchad topscored for Mesang Red Strom with 24 and 22 baskets, in that order but did not made much of a difference as they suffered another loss.
