Koror claims gold in basketball

Team Koror showed poise as they went all the way to beat Ngeremlengui, 79-69 to win the gold in the men’s basketball of the 2013 Belau Games held at the Palau National gym.

Leading 20-18 in the first quarter, team Koror continued to put pressure as they outscored Ngeremlengui 22-20 to close the first half with a 42-38 advantage. Team Koror continued to stay on course in the second half as they met little resistance as they went on for the win.

King Ngiraboi led the charge for team Koror with 15 points as teammates RB Dorado, Marvic Ngchar and Sunshine Soalablai chipped in 14, 12 and 11 markers, respectively while the troika of Brandon Harvey, Mike Williams and Tuchoi finished the game with identical 18 baskets to pace Ngeremlengui which settled for the silver medal.

On the other hand, highly financed team Ngatpang secured the bronze after they defeated team Peleliu, 96-79 with Douglas Schmidt leading the way with 29 points.

In the distaff side, team Ngaraard relied on team work as they went on to beat team Ngatpang, 67-59 to secure the gold. Ngaraard’s duo of Sarabeth Ksano and Ayla Kazuma led the scoring fray with 19 and 18 markers, respectively while Dollyne had 17 for Ngatpang.
