Peched Raw wins NBL title

Team Peched Raw went for the kill as they beat FR Spoilers, 82-76 Thursday night to take the championship title of the 2013 season of the IP&E National Basketball League (NBL) at the Palau National gym.

Peched Raw started slow as trailed in the first quarter 13-15 and then managed to stay in striking distance at the end of the first half with the score at 33-39. Peched Raw struggle all game long as its defensive man, Traxx Mark, got into foul trouble.

However, Peched Raw “Big Three” composed of Douglas Schmidt, Perry Oiterong and Sunshine Soalablai managed to keep them at striking distance as they chip off the Spoilers lead at 57-60 going into the fourth quarter.

Peched Raw did not want to extend further the series as they unleashed a 28-13 run in the final quarter that saw them taking the lead and winning the game. The win finished the series at 3-1.

Peched Raw’s “Big Three” led the way with Schmidt finishing with 21, Finals MVP Oiterong tallied 20 and Soalablai had 19. Lester Mendoza, on the other hand, led the charge for the Spoilers with 21 as teammate Michael Bombita had 14 on the losing end.

Other awardees for the tournament were Mike Williams of WCC Hammers (season MVP) and Marvic Ngchar of the Nationals (rookie of the year).
