PHS A Spiders blast BMS in ISL Senior Varsity bball

Defending champion Palau High School (PHS) team A Spiders has sent out a message that they are determined to defend their crown as they blasted Belau Modekengei School (BMS), 138-20 last Friday in the 2014 Inter-School League (ISL) Senior Varsity basketball league played at the Palau High School gym.

The Spiders meant business as they waxed hot in the opening tip off leading 29-6 and then suffocated BMS with their defense as they only allowed the latter to score four points and closed the first half with a 67-10 lead.

From there, the Spiders put on a shooting clinic in the second half as they went on to outscore BMS and take the win. With the win, the Spiders take a 2-0 win-loss record in the team standings. Not only that, five of the Spiders finished the game in double digits with Medermel Yaoch topscoring with 24 while teammates John Masao, O’Brian Ngemaes Jr., Lipsman Timothy and Edward Baysa chipped in 20, 18, 16 and 10 points, respectively.

On the other hand, William Kyota was able to finish the game with five markers while Saikemal and Ngiramowai Frits tallied identical four baskets, in that order as they suffered their first lost.

In other games, PHS B beat EHS Knights, 93-62; and PHS A downed EHS Knights, 89-45.

Games resume today with PMA versus BMS at the SDA gym while PHS A will take on PHS B at the Spider gym. Tomorrows games will feature BMS against EHS at the Palau National gym.

Thursday games will have EHS versus PMA at the EHS court. All games start at 4 p.m. and teams are required to come on time.

A total of five teams will vie for top honors and it include Palau High School teams A and B, Emmaus High School and Palau Mission Academy.
