SDA wins EASC plum

Showing steady hands in situations that matters most, the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Jr. Kings went all the way to beat a tough Meyuns Elementary School (MES) Jr. Dolphins, 63-62 to take the 2014 Elementary After School Competition (EASC) played Friday at the Palau National gym.

As both teams were in a seesaw battle in the final canto, SDA Jr. Kings Kailo drilled in back to back three point shots to give his team a 59-57 cushion with barely one minute left in the game.

Then Eltong Sapemang of MES Jr. Dolphins answered back with a three points of his own to grab back the lead at 60-59. Then Roldan fired back with a shot in their next possession to give back the lead to SDA at 61-60.

Sapemang then took matters into his own hands as he scored in their next possession to give MES a 62-61 breather with less than 10 second left in the game. Then Roldan step up as he drove inside the MES defense and slicing his way through for a shot that gave them the win.

The Jr. Dolphins tried their best to get a shot in their next possession but time ran out of them, giving the win to the SDA Jr. Kings.

Roldan normed 20 points for the SDA Jr. Kings while teammate Kailo added 13. Sapemang, on the other hand, finished the game with 31 for the Jr. Dolphins while teammate Newheart Edeludd chipped in 11 on the losing end.

On the other hand, Basketball Development Officer Topps Sungino said that this week they will conduct the 12 and under co-ed 2014 Elementary After School Competition (EASC) played Friday at the Palau National gym.

Three teams will see action in the weeklong event namely the Maris Stella Jr. Sea Stars, SDA Jr. Kings and the MES Jr. Dolphins. Games today will feature MSS Jr. Sea Stars against MES Jr. Dolphins at 3:30 p.m.

Tomorrow’s game will have SDA Jr. Kings versus MES Jr. Dolphins. The top two teams will advance to the championship where specially crafted trophies will be up for grabs.

The tournament is implementing a no drugs, no alcohol, no chewing of betelnut policy. Violators will be banned from the program. By Peter Erick L. Magbanua (Island Times News)
