Originals, Rats and Stars secure win in Masters cagefest

Contenders Gilas Originals and MogMog Rats and Stars showed their winning forms after besting respective rivals, Sunday in the ongoing 2014 Filipino Master League basketball tournament at the Palau National gym.

Gilas Originals secured their fourth straight victory after beating WCTC Red Rooster, 71-53. The Originals established a 23-10 lead in the opening frame and from there never looked back as they went all the way to win the game.

Despite missing the services of Jun Bautista, the Originals still manage to get point production from other players as Demar Mondragon led the scoring chores with 17 points as teammate Sonny Jacinto chipped in 11 as they now sport a 4-0 win-loss record in the team standings.

Jojo Marino topscored for WCTC Red Rooster with 23 on the losing end as they suffered their first setback to tie with Mason’s Hardware with identical 2-1 records, respectively.

On the other hand, MogMog Rats and Stars shed slight sweat as they drubbed Kabalikat, 108-46.

In other games, Melusch Dil won over Mason’s Hardware, 72-62 while PPR All Stud beat Surangel and Sons, 65-42.

Games will resume on August 24 with Gilas Originals versus Surangel and Sons at 11 a.m. followed by the MogMog Rats and Stars-WCTC Red Rooster tussle at 12:30 p.m. Kabalikat will face Melusch Dil at 2 p.m. while PPR All Stud will take on Mason’s Hardware in the main game at 3:30 p.m.
