Western Union, Bulls renew rivalry

It will be a fierce battle this Sunday when title contender Western Union tries to settle unfinished business with newcomer Ilocandia Bulls in the resumption of the 2009 Filipino Basketball League (FBL) at the Palau National gym.

The last time the two teams met on May 17, the game was stopped in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter after a fighting incident that involved Western Union’s Emerson Patenia and Ilocandia Bulls’ Jun Villena, wherein Patenia landed an elbow to Villena and the later threw a punch.

After the incident the members of the FBA led by its chairman Lucio Bandibas together with official from the Palau Basketball Federation suspended both players and decided both teams lost the game by default due to the fight.

Aside from the penalties rendered to both players, both Western Union and Ilocandia Bulls together with their coaches were also placed under probation for the remainder of the season. Violation of the probation will result in a ban for the remainder of the season.

Set to suit up for Western Union in their 2 p.m. encounter are Patenia, Jun Bautista, Bong Alambra, Jun Clemenia, RJ Jusay and Ruben Tecson while the Bulls will rely once again on the team of Villena, Joeger Supnet, Dennis Castro, Joel Nacionales, Cesar Quisora and Cesar Rebollido.

In other games, Rams Ballers will play against Hanpa Cardinals in the opener at 11 a.m. while the J-Trading Jaguars will test the Rangers at 12:30 p.m.

The tournament is supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF) and sponsored by Pinoy Express and Remittance, WCTC, Aqua Water, Print Zone, PITI, Palau Royal Resort, ATT Bar and Restaurant, CTSI Logistics and Shimbros International
