Philipino Basketball update
Triple 888 registered its second win for the Season by defeating Eltech Engineers last Sunday at FILBA’s 10th Season 75-65 at Don Bosco Indoor Gym Gabutu.
Triple 888 dumps newcomer Primus last week and continued their winning form. Former players of two time champions SVS Mart are now with Triple 888.
Young Glen Dimacale top scored for 888 with 17 points but Joe Elavo provided the much-needed points in the home stretch including couple of slam-dunks. Elavo pumped in 14 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and blocked the ball twice.
It was a close first quarter as the teams traded baskets and the lead changed twice but 888 prevailed 15-13.
In the second quarter 888 skipper Mac Laurel providing leadership on the floor got his team mates pounding the scoreboard increasing the lead up 10 points 27-17 but Apiah Muri, Marlon Pabro and Ryan Aboltivo counter attack to end this quarter 32-28, Triple 888 in front.
Eltech’s Joven Dampil and Jumar Ortiz came back strongly in the 3rd quarter and tied the game for the second time 46-46 with 2 minutes in the quarter clock. But the elder Alfred Dimacale’s free throws saved the quarter 51-50, Triple 888 ahead by a hair line.
On the final turn, 888’s Glen Dimacale fired a 3pts that sparked a 24 – 4 rally that saw the score blown up 75-54, a 21 point margin. 888 Veteran forward Cris Arcangeles combining efforts with Joe Elavo to seal the game.
The crowd was entertained by slam-dunks coming from Joe Elavo of 888 and Apiah Muri of Eltech.
Apiah Muri led Eltech posting 24 points and 7 rebounds while 2009 MVP Marlon Pabro contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds.
In the other games played RH Tigers annihilated Primus 82 – 57.
