CHUNG WAH SCHOOL REFEREE COURSE

The school will soon start their competition with children at ages of 12 years to 14 years. They have a total of 6 teams to compete.

The referee course was really good because most of the participants were students. It was my idea to have them included so they can start referee at this early age. They have blended in well and seemed to enjoy the afternoon session. We spent about 45 mins in the classroom and the rest out in the court.

I used some of the participants to play against each other and get some of them mostly students to officiate and will stop them to explain or correct them as we go along. It was really fun because they seemed to enjoy referee than playing. I spent about 1 hour and a half going through with them positioning of LEAD and TRAIL referee, positioning of referee during FREE THROW, JUMP BALL and encouraging them that they can become professional referees starting at this age.

We finished with a group photo and I handed to their sport coordinator few whistles for the school so they can use them in their competition. I also assured to them about my presence during the tournament to help evaluate the referees.

With that their assistant sport coordinator, Mr Ambrose Kikolo acknowledges my assistance and mostly thank me for helping them to finally have a school junior basketball competition with their own referees. The competition will see them playing in pool and top teams advance into finals.
