Under 19 Oceania Basketball Championship

The Solomon Islands Under 19 Teams both Boys and Girls were lucky to participate in this tournament with the assistance of FIBA and mostly ONOC for meeting all travel arrangements. This will be the first time for Solomon Islands to participate in a Junior FIBA competition. The games begin with all participating teams displaying quality offense and deffense from different coaches from different countries. Regardless with the small knowledges we have about basketball we fought out hard playing against every team that was in our pool. The Boys team have been pooled in a very tough side which saw them exchausted in every game. The highest score they made was 31 points when playing against Samoa. Guam, New Caledonia and Australia have got passed them easily with a big margin score. Even though this tournament was tough, they seemed to enjoyed every game they played.

on the other hand the Girls team have put out a great show and even create History for Solomon Islands for defeating the host FIJI and Samoa on a very good fight and tight game. Our girls have been boosted with the two twins who were studying and playing college basketball in the United state of America. Their inclusion to the team have given the girls confident to play hard regardless with the inexperience of playing basketaball at this level. Both teams have already played all games in their pool and now the boys will play one last game for position 9 and 10 while the girls will play at the bottom division for gold , silver and bronze. There were a total of 10 teams participating in this tournament. They were Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Guam, American Samoa, Samoa, PNG, Solomon Islands, and the host it self FIJI.

The tournament have given both the Boys and Girls a very good experience and good memomries aswell which they will carry with them back home after the tournament.
