Annie La Fleur Visit:
All basketball fans in Port Vila are invited to attend the clinics and workshops being presented by Annie. Annie is a former Australian National player, winning silver for Australia at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
The school visit program started out late this year because of busy schedules for the Sports Development Officer based in the NOC office. A series of successive courses were outlined earlier to be attended by the Dos who should be traveling together to the schools as a unit.
A total of 14 schools are included in the schedule of visit at a frequency of one visit in a period of three weeks.
Sports development officers come from Tennis, Table Tennis, Archery, Netball, Volleyball, Basketball and the NOC SDO caters for modified sports. During the visit all SDOs are given a group of students to train starting from modified sports for warm up and each SDOs then complete the sessions with their sports specific skills training.
The VBF NBDO keeps a record of all the participating students which is signed by the teachers in charge and the NOC Development officer at the end of each sessions. Records of the number of participants will then be referred to later on for reporting purpose.
Some schools do not have basketball facilities therefore our (Basketball) NBDO use some other creative ideas to teach skills to the students.
