RMI teams prep for weekend kickoff

Marshall Islands Basketball Federation Secretary General Deborah K. Shoniber reports from Guam:

Nathanial 'Baby' Lometo celebrates his birthday: It was Baby's birthday on Wednesday September 19th, the day after both teams arrived in Guam for the MBT. Both teams went to Micronesian Mall to get sporting supplies, shoes, etc., and everyone ended up cheering him on as he was invited onstage in the middle of the mall to demonstrate his awesome ZUMBA skills to a crowd of ZUMBA addicts! Happy Birthday to Baby, with a Chamorro twist...

Marshallese community supports their teams: September 20th, both teams used the Guam Sports Complex up in Deededo in preparation of the Tournament. Both teams worked really hard with their plays and drills. We were in high spirits and rewarded with a donation from the Marshalls United in Guam organization with 10 cases of bottled water. Thank you to the Marshallese Community in Guam for such a useful and generous gift for both teams...

Hemry is chief chef: Both teams have been bonding and sharing game ideas at the designated "Hemry's Kitchen" up in Nimitz Towers where Hemry Maddison is preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner on a daily basis for all 24 players, 4 coaches, 2 assistants. Boy what a challenge it is to statisfy so many taste buds...

Another long practice session: September 21, 8:30am-11am Agana Heights Gym, RMI Girls team worked really hard this morning fine-tuning all their plays, sharpening their shooting skills — Per Nebwin deBrum and Stacy Lulu Lejjena "GAME ON!" They declare their anticipation and need to play their best. They both say this is something the've been waiting for and can't wait until Sunday's game at 4pm...

Students hit the books: Darcyann Muller, Molena Louis, Kerryann Lejjena, Kyle Paul, and many other students on the team are not only being challenged on the court, they are challenged academically every evening as homework and reading nightly is enforced by the MIBF delegates. We encourage excercise in the minds just as much as we do for basketball...

Stay tuned for more news.
