Men's First Round Playoff Schedule Announced
The Marshall Islands men's national team will challenge Guam in the first round of the playoffs Friday night, September 28, at the Micronesian Basketball Tournament in Guam.
Guam is 6-0 in regular play, while the RMI, Palau and Guam Jr. are tied at 4-2 for regular play. But based on point spreads in their games, RMI is the fourth seed in the playoffs, so it plays number one Guam. Guam Jr is seeded second and Palau is third.
Both of these playoff games are scheduled for 8pm Friday September 28 (Guam time) at the University of Guam Fieldhouse. The winners will play in the gold medal game Saturday at 2pm, and the losers will play in the bronze game at 10am Saturday September 29.
Of the three teams in the playoffs with Guam, the RMI came the closest to upsetting the hosts in the preliminary round. It held a halftime lead of four points, but ultimately lost by 14, 76-62. Guam earlier defeated Palau by 20, 95-75, and Guam Jr. by 18, 66-48.
